When our niece asked if we could make her a table to suit the dining room of her new home, we had no idea the Recycled Timber Table JB would turn out to be one of the biggest tables we’d ever build.
Her dining room was extremely long, but narrow, so she was having a lot of trouble finding a particular table to suit. We searched around for the right timber for the top, that ended up being massive lengths of Oregon salvaged from a demo site here on the Gold Coast and the rest followed on.
This table is so solid – a small party of people could dance on top of it…and probably have!
Product Description
The Recycled Timber Table JB is one of our favourite tables because it was one we especially built for our niece. She asked if we could come up with a really, really long table to go in to her new home in Geelong.
Using chunky salvaged Oregon lengths we determined the length of the table so it would fit her chairs easily. Then the trickier part came with fixing an apron to hold the top. One that would do the job strength wise, but one that didn’t annoy seated guests.
The apron and legs are all recycled mixed hardwoods. While the Oregon top was relatively light in weight, the frame & legs made it extremely heavy and the length proved difficult to manoeuvre. Normally our freight guys would cringe at moving one of these tables in one piece. Luckily JB has a forklift at her home, weird but true, so freight guys had a dream run due to fork-on and then fork-off. They only had to move it a few metres from verandah to dining room (a six man job).
RECLAIMED TIMBER
We never know what timber we’re going to salvage, and quite often it comes complete with wire, nails, bolts and even old hinges still embedded or sticking out of it. To eliminate the danger of our tools hitting a metal object as we assemble, we run a metal detector over the timber. Even though old metal is removed, or smacked back in to the timber in some cases, we try and leave as many of the old age imperfections still present to feature as you can see on top of the table.
We get it, everyone is different. Because of this all our recycled tables are made-to-order. We encourage our clients to be a part of the design process. Meaning that each recycled piece can be custom designed to suit your preference of material, finish and dimension.
